The Paint Color Trends of 2024 Are in—And They’re Gorgeous

Paint is more than simply a pigment, and its influence extends beyond the visual. Our walls express a mood, influencing our energy and establishing the vibe of a space. And as with anything aesthetically significant, how we choose to experience our homes—by the way of color—is subject to the ebbs and flows of taste. What we’re attracted to, whether it’s a waterfall kitchen island, a sentimental reading nook, or any design flourish, is a reflection of our world. Both with attention to the present and an appreciation of the past. Paint is powerful—and the paint color trends of 2024 express exactly that.

In the year to come, designers anticipate sophistication and warmth conveyed through deep browns, unexpected purples, and grounding pairings for Pantone’s Peach Fuzz. Ready to see what the year has in store? Ahead, designers share their takes on the paint color trends of 2024.

Rich Browns

“Gone are the days of stark whites and bleak greys as people continue to gravitate toward hues that provide warmth and character in 2024,” says Samantha Stathis-Lynch of Samantha Ware Designs. The designer anticipates “rich, mud-like browns” to influence our living spaces. Ware calls the choice charming and sophisticated, citing Farrow and Ball’s London Clay as her favorite embodiment of the trend.

It’s a departure from last year’s dopamine decor, which favored all things bold and bright. But as homeowners seek to cultivate a calm haven, subdued shades are top of mind. Brad Ramsey, Principal and Founder of Brad Ramsey Interiors agrees, noting that our collective penchant for caffeine will reign over our design choices. “Think about coffee, cappuccino and lattes and how those warm colors hit the spot just like your afternoon Starbucks fix.” Sound cozy? Ramsey loves Sherwin Williams’ Iced Mocha 9092 to bring the trend to life.

Cozy and Warm Earth Tones

While the hype behind Chocolate Brown’s influence is a trend unto itself, the brown-is-the-new-black shift from Barbiecore pink leads us into the expansive world of earthy tones. Charity Buchika of Teaselwood Design opts for these organic shades when looking to design “a luxurious canvas and add depth to create an inviting atmosphere.” It’s a trend we’ve seen gather steam over the past few years, and interiors will continue to lean on these versatile shades. Clinton Brown by Benjamin Moore is the designer’s go-to, noting that it “complements lighter tones nicely by introducing striking contrasts.”

Deep Purples

Joshua Smith, Principal and Founder of Joshua Smith Inc. is happy to welcome a surprising new color family to the design zeitgeist—purple. But it’s not the poppy, jarring pigment that first comes to mind. “Think deeper shades like plum and amethyst, even magenta,” Smith says. If cultivating inner peace is on your 2024 vision board, purple is your color of the year. “From a psychology perspective,” notes the designer, “purple promotes harmony of the mind and the emotions. It contributes to mental balance and stability, calming the nerves.” Smith loves the trend so much, he painted the front door of his Vermont studio Farrow and Ball’s Pelt.

If you’re not ready to go all-in with the trending hue, Stathis-Lynch loves purple as an accent, simultaneously spanning the spectrum of emotion to capture both an eclectic and moody vibe. With its subtle red tint, she recommends Brinjal by Farrow and Ball.

Nature-Inspired Hues

A common consensus among the designers we interviewed is that natural influence will reign over the paint color trends of 2024. Shelagh Conway, Principal and Founder of Triple Heart Design in Austin, predicts the year will be defined by a “mix of soft neutrals and rich earth colors. Think of the morning light at sunrise—the soft, dreamy pastels and the drama of the night sky.” Colors will continue to draw influence from nature’s inherent calm and peace.

Eddie Maestri, Principal Architect and Owner of Maestri Studio in Dallas, coins the moment a deep lean into “biophilic design.” Ginger Curtis, CEO and Founder of Urbanology Designs agrees with the terminology, predicting that “shades of taupe and beige will infuse spaces with a sense of timeless elegance and a palette that evokes the comforting warmth of sun-kissed landscapes.”

The nod to all that’s organic will make its away to our exteriors as well. But because of the exposure to the elements, exterior paints favor preservation and longevity through more muted tones, says Nastassja Bowman of Kristen Elizabeth Design. There’s also a desire to seamlessly blend a build into the environment around it. “Pulling colors from nature is a great way to bring in color without impeding on the exterior landscape,” says Bowman.

Interior decorator Kathrain Rhudy loves the blending of this trend with the year’s shift toward timeless appeal. “Rather than choosing a bright white, opt for something a little more subtle and combine with dark grey green for a dramatic and sophisticated look.”

Accessible Whites

Achromatic and neutral, white is often slated as an afterthought—the default shade designers opt for without consideration for what a room truly needs. But this year, we’ll see white contributing to our penchant for comfort and stability in our spaces. Matthew Blonand of MMB Studio captures the trend using Dunn Edwards DEW380, loving its warmth and versatility “for an art-filled interior with wood floors.”

Eleanor Trepte, Principal Designer of Dekay & Tate predicts a similar role for whites in 2024—a salve to soothe and subdue other hues. She calls Benjamin Moore’s White Dove an “easy” white, citing its ability to pick up and play well with other tones. Melinda Trembly of Rincon Rd loves this off-white as well, pairing White Dove with Natural Cream on the trim of a recent project. A proponent of the trend, she loves Swiss Coffee as a universal shade and the creamy warmth of Mascarpone on cabinetry.

Peach Fuzz

It comes as no surprise—any hue Pantone names its Color of the Year is bound to find its way to our walls. Designer Laura Chappetto Flynn of Element Design Network loves peach for the “cheerful, playful vibe” it lends to any space, encouraging homeowners to experiment with the hue as an upbeat accent color. To keep the retro shade from overwhelming a room, she advises pairing it with a grounding color—”rich navy, deep green, and chocolate brown being our favorites.” Two trending paint colors in one? We’re here for it.

And if you’re hesitant to lean into the year’s ubiquitous shade, Chappetto Flynn suggests opting for a wallpaper that incorporates the color into its design. Complete the look by painting the ceiling for an “unexpected accent.” The designer loves employing the trend in either a powder or mud room.

Bright, Accented Exteriors

Amber Guyton of Blessed Little Bungalow suggests opting for vibrant shades beyond just peach in 2024, with blues and greens making their appearance in exteriors. “Exterior doors are also a great way to add a warm pop of color like brick red, orange, or yellow.”

And while Bowman loves the look of muted tones used in large swaths across an exterior, she agrees that striking, bold colors can work well on a trim if used in a gloss finish.

It’s proof that no matter how much inspiration we draw from the natural world, color—when used thoughtfully—will always be in.

I Work in Fashion, and These 12 Style Trends Will Be Everywhere In 2024

2023 was the year of quiet luxury, Barbiecore, and coquette. For me, it was also the year I started finding a groove with my style—taking more chances and wearing more of what I love. It helps that I not only work in fashion but also alongside some of the most stylish people I know. (Our office mirror is famous for capturing some incredible OOTDs.)

One of the hardest, yet most fun, parts about my job is trying to predict what will sell 12 months in advance by identifying and choosing the top 2024 fashion trends to lean into throughout the year. From studying the runways to gaining inspiration from style icons, to letting my creativity run a bit wild, it’s safe to say I’ve done my research on the fashion trends that’ll soon take over your feeds.

Whether you’re looking to reinvent your style in the new year or simply wondering what we’ll all be wearing this year, I’ve rounded up the top 2024 fashion trends below—plus photo inspo and my favorite pieces to help make each look your own.

And though it’s easy to go crazy buying up the latest trending items on Zara and H&M, my number one piece of advice when it comes to trends is to shop your closet first. While it’s always fun to treat yourself to something new, chances are, some of these 2024 fashion trends are spin-offs from years past and you might be able to give new life to something that’s been gathering dust in the back of your closet. I’ve also recently started “shopping” Pinterest, saving outfits that I like, and trying to recreate them with pieces I already own. Remember: Curating a wardrobe you love is a journey, and it’s one that she be approved with thoughtfulness and care.

Every product is curated with care by our editors and we’ll always give an honest opinion, whether gifted or purchased ourselves. If you buy something through our links, we may earn a small commission at no cost to you.

Chocolate Brown

Red was the main character of 2023, from Hailey Bieber’s strawberry girl makeup to pops of red taking over our TikTok feeds. Moving into the new year, it’s time to dip those strawberries into chocolate because rich brown tones are taking over in 2024. A monochrome chocolate brown look exudes quiet luxury, but if you want to get creative with color, mixing browns and blacks will earn you a stamp of approval from stylists. Though once a fashion faux pas, rules are meant to be broken, and this color combo is an easy on-trend look.

Maximalist Jewelry

When it comes to jewelry, more is more—a little something I learned from the queen of maximalist jewelry herself, Rocky Barnes. Just like mixing browns and blacks, styling both gold and silver jewelry is one of my favorite 2024 fashion trends on the rise. Dip your toe into this trend with a pair of chunky earrings from brands like Heaven Mayhem and pile strands of vintage-inspired necklaces from Galley Los Angeles to your neckline.

Flirty Fem

2023 has been coined the year of the girl, with Margot Robbie and the Barbie movie creating a craze for all things pink. And of course, ballet flats made an unexpected comeback (we all love an underdog story!). After seeing about a thousand Christmas trees with coquette-style bows to replace ornaments, I have a feeling this trend isn’t going anywhere, though it will take on some new forms in the new year. A-line silhouettes, peplums, and lace are a few of the girliest 2024 fashion trends we can expect to see.

Big (And I Mean BIG) Bags

Though the microscopic Louis Vuitton handbag made headlines in 2023, oversized catch-all bags will be newsworthy in 2024. Practicality is back in style and the fashion girlies are carrying bags that will actually carry their stuff—without sacrificing style, of course. The Row leads the charge on this trend, but don’t worry, you can still get the look for less.

Layers on Layers

If you’re a bit wary of bold fashion trends, let layering be your style goal for 2024. Layering will be the mark of a “cool girl” this year, while also being achievable for anyone. Letting a sliver of a white tee shirt peek through from underneath a sweater, adding a frilly sock to your go-to loafers, or tossing on a quilted vest over a collared shirt are just a few easy, small ways to make an outfit more interesting.

Wrong Shoe Theory

This is one of my favorite 2023 styling tips that’s growing legs in 2024. Coined via TikTok, The Wrong Shoe Theory states that an outfit is made more interesting with an unexpected shoe—AKA, be bold with your styling choices.

If you were to wear a very feminine outfit, The Wrong Shoe Theory would say that a chunky sneaker or boot would take the look to the next level. In contrast, a sportier or edgier look should be paired with a ballet flat or slingbacks. Keep this in mind as you shop your closet for 2024 fashion trends, as just making a funky footwear choice will set you well on your way.

Barrel Leg Jeans

While this shape may not be for everyone, barrel-leg or horseshoe jeans are the style of the new year. With a high waist and a voluminous leg, these pants give you a bit more shape than ultra-baggy wide-leg denim, while still steering clear of the skinny jean. It’s unexpected and can be surprisingly flattering—we’re here for it.

Testing Textures

NYC Wardrobe Stylist Mac Rose has gone viral on TikTok for her advice that “if an outfit is not interesting through color, then it has to be interesting through shape. If it’s not interesting through shape, then it has to be interesting through texture.”

I’ve loved seeing how everyone interprets this styling advice through their videos. But what really sticks out to me is the use of texture to create a unique outfit. Pleats, sequins, and sherpa were all over the fashion week runways and never fail to add depth and interest.

Pointed Toe Shoes

As a self-diagnosed shoe addict, pointed toe sandals and slingbacks might be my favorite of the 2024 fashion trends—though they had to grow on me. (Before I could fully adopt the trend, I had to erase the image of the Wicked Witch under Dorothy’s house from my mind.) Now, I see the shoes for their chic ability to elongate your legs and add sass to a look. Try pairing a pointed-toe with a long trouser or jean, letting just the tip of the shoe make its point—metaphorically and literally.

Mini Everything (Except Your Bag)

While bags are getting bigger, clothes are getting smaller. One of the 2024 fashion trends that is slowly making its way from the runway to our wardrobes is micro mini shorts and skirts. These barely-there bottoms are a chance to go bold with your styling. Though the full extent of this trend intimidates even me, you can still hop on the bandwagon with traditional shorts and mini skirts. Adding tights to the look can tone down the drama as needed.

Relaxed Tailoring

Overly oversized silhouettes are slowly on the out, and relaxed, yet tailored styles are heading back in. Skinny jeans remain in exile, but straight-legged denim, form-fitted blazers, and stylish suiting are roaming the streets. Look for styles that are loose enough to be comfy but fitted enough to show your shape when building your 2024 wardrobe.

All Things Sheer

Sheer is chic in 2024. Another trend that you can embody to varying degrees, try adding a bold burgundy tight under your mini skirt or go head-to-toe with a sheer dress over Skims undergarments. Mesh shoes even had a moment in 2023, which is a testament that this trend is going big—and not going home anytime soon.

14 Beauty Trends That Prove—You’ll Be Shocked By What‘s Coming in 2024

Last year, on a whim, I quit caffeine. I don’t remember the exact reason, but I remember the first few days of headaches and fatigue sans matcha. Thankfully, my cravings are long behind me, and when reflecting on the last year, I thought—what small change can I make this year that could shift everything? It makes sense that my word for 2024 is curiosity, and I’m excited to see what I’ll love, grow out of, and fall into in the year ahead. Of course, as a beauty editor, I’m also curious about the 2024 beauty trends that will impact our daily routines and rituals in the year ahead.

From 90s grunge to Y2K kitsch, trends often influence how we understand and reflect on different periods in our lives. We associate certain aesthetic choices with our life experiences. Looking through old pictures can be like watching our own personal eras tour. We remember who we were with different hair, a different makeup routine, or when we (all) inevitably over-plucked our eyebrows.

We can’t predict what this year will bring, but we can pinpoint the 2024 beauty trends you’ll be seeing everywhere. Curious? Read on.

2024 beauty trends skincare products.

You’d think skincare routines are a constant. Sure, some treat theirs like a predictable ritual immune to the influence of the trend cycle. But that’s far from the truth. Skincare trends are among the most volatile. With new discoveries, technologies, and even application methods constantly circulating the internet, it can be difficult to cut out the noise.

As a beauty editor, I’m eager to try every new product I can get my hands on. I’ve discovered niche ingredients I can’t live without, but I’ve also made a slew of mistakes so you don’t have to. With this year’s latest skincare innovations vying for space in your vanity, these are the trends worth trying out.

Science-Backed Skincare

Is 2024 the year we sever our attachment to social media skincare trends? As trust wanes on heavily-produced before and after skincare videos, many people are going back to basics—and trusting their dermatologists. Skincare made or backed by science and experts is going to outshine pretty packaging this year.

Skin Streaming

A new take on skin minimalism (aka ‘skinimalism‘), skin streaming refers to streamlining your routine to its essentials. The basics according to skin streaming include a cleanser, an antioxidant serum, a moisturizer, and a sunscreen. Though I’m all for whimsical products like my skin milks and hydrogel face masks, skin streaming is more attainable and affordable. Whether you pare down permanently or try it when your skin is irritated, this is a TikTok trend we can get behind.

Gentle Exfoliation

Over-exfoliation is over. The 2024 beauty trends forecast favors a protected skin barrier. But this doesn’t mean you have to throw out all your peels and tonics—just rethink your approach. Instead of reaching for the formulas with the highest acid percentage, evaluate which formulations are best for your skin and skincare concerns. Choose between AHAs, BHAs, and PHAs discerningly and practice gentle exfoliation a few times a week instead of every night. Your skin barrier will thank you.

Facial Massages

The best beauty routines are the ones that feel like a wellness ritual instead of a chore. Some days I can barely muster up the energy to wash my face, let alone go through the motions of a tedious routine. But no matter how tired I am, I always feel better after giving myself a facial massage.

The simple ritual helps with lymphatic drainage and facial sculpting while also relaxing my muscles (who else holds all their tension in their jaw?) and reminding me to be more present. This year, facial massages you can do with just your hands will be all the rage. I still love all my gadgets and gua sha, but a quick massage with warm hands is so much more accessible.

Hand and Neck Care

Your hands and neck are the first places to show signs of aging. So even if you apply skincare and sunscreen to your face diligently, you’re probably forgetting these key areas. Good news: there’s a new class of skincare products made to protect your hands and neck with powerful ingredients like collagen and retinol. And this year, you’ll be seeing them everywhere.

SPF Reapplication

Speaking of protecting your skin, there’s no better force against the elements than SPF. But even if you lather yourself with SPF50 before leaving the house, remember to reapply. Let 2024 be the year you top up your sun protection every two hours. From SPF makeup powders to sunscreen sticks, there are options for all lifestyles. Remember, the best sun protection is the one you’ll actually wear— and reapply.

The Makeup Looks You’ll Love

Whether you’re switching up your daily look or wanting to experiment with something bold, makeup trends are the place to showcase your creativity.

Over the past few years, makeup has seen a shift. Instead of using it to cover up our insecurities, makeup has become an exciting form of self-expression. In this spirit, celebrity makeup artists and runway looks have encouraged creativity—adding a pop of color here and a new shade there. These are the 2024 beauty trends the makeup industry can’t get enough of.

Bring on the Blush

Whether you call this the Strawberry Girl aesthetic or the Sabrina Carpenter look, participating in this winter’s biggest makeup trend means piling on the blush. Exaggerate the apples of your cheeks and the top of your nose with a heavy wash of red or pink pigments. The dramatic contrast works even better if you keep the rest of the look natural. I’ve always said my ideal vacation makeup is nothing but sunscreen with a lip and cheek multi-stick, so I’m ready for this trend to take over and evolve throughout the year.

Spider Lashes

Spider lashes are the 2024 version of Twiggy’s signature 60s look. It’s achieved by using mascara to create distinct, spider-like lashes. Hot tip: high-quality mascara is the key to achieving this look without clumping.

Permanent Freckles

Faux freckles have been an increasingly popular makeup trend in recent years. Now, following other permanent makeup trends like lip blushing and micro-blading, you can get permanent freckles with a quick trip to the salon instead of laying out in the sun. While I’ve been seeing this online everywhere, I’ll be keeping tabs to see if this one takes off in real life—or if people will stick to drawing on freckles with liquid liner.

Lots of Lip

Lip plumpers, lip filler, lip stains, oh my! The beauty industry can’t get enough of lip trends. In 2024, expect more fun takes on lip looks this year. “Hyaluronic acid lips” (using hyaluronic acid under your favorite lip balm) is the trending natural alternative to lip plumpers. And new shades of lip gloss and lip oils keep hitting the shelves. Right now, everyone is wearing berry-toned lips and the brown “latte makeup” trend also seems to be holding strong.

We all know the feeling of looking in the mirror and asking ourselves: Should I get bangs? Should I cut off all my hair? While taking a big risk with your hair can sometimes pay off, I’ve found it’s usually better to consult my hair stylist before making any rash decision. So when approaching 2024 beauty trends, we’re sticking to smaller shifts and focusing on making our hair as healthy as it can be.

Two-Tone Hair

A step down from 2023’s Gemini hair, two-tone hair refers to different ways of incorporating another shade into your hair. This can be highlights, ombre, or shattered roots, and it’s often a more natural contrast that gives your hair dimension without risking too much regret.

Nighttime Hair Rituals

Your haircare routine doesn’t end after you rinse and repeat. The truth is, healthy hair is made in your sleep. 2024 is the year of incorporating hair rituals into our nighttime routines. Using natural ingredients like hair oiling or rice water sprays is one option, so is wrapping your hair in silk or using a satin pillow.

Side Part

Will 2024 be the end of the middle part? Side parts are the most surprising comeback of the year. Over the past few years, middle parts reigned with sleek, low-maintenance hairstyles. But blowouts are back, and with bouncier hair comes the dramatic side part. Now the ultimate question: do you part your hair on the right or left?

Whimsical Accessories

Call it a symptom of the pandemic, but hair accessories over the past few years have been very functional. Don’t get me wrong. I love the practicality of a claw clip and a headband. But the recent surge in ribbons and bows reminded me of a time when hair trends were just pretty. Pretty and impractical. Whimsical and over the top. That’s the vibe for hair accessories in 2024.

Woman doing makeup

Say sayonara short-term beauty solutions. In 2024, the cosmetic market is expected to shift toward a holistic approach—one that will re-signify the very notion of beauty. Invasive and expensive treatments are taking a backseat. Embracing our aging skin is where it’s at. Rather than fight the lines, we’re celebrating them. In response, the beauty industry is listening. They’re dropping harsh anti-aging treatments in favor of utilizing the body’s natural regenerative systems.

Skin Longevity

Longevity is the name of the game in 2024. Thanks to longevity research, many of us are starting to re-think the span of our lives. In fact, the global longevity market is projected to reach $183 billion by 2028! With the right daily habits, we can live longer, feel better, and look younger. Rather than an immediate fix, we want long-term resources. This year, we’ll be buying products that utilize revolutionary science, regenerative medicine, and biotechnology. Inspiring and innovative ingredients are at our fingertips.

Minimal Makeup with a Splash of Color

We’ll continue to favor minimal makeup in 2024, but vibrant splashes aren’t disappearing. A single pop of color is all you need to make a statement (a dash of color on the eyes or lips). Experts predict we’ll be topping off our barely-there foundation with vibrant eyeliner or a swipe of lipstick.

Global peppers, buckwheat, and cottage cheese are among the food trends expected to stock the shelves in 2024. Oh, and plenty of plants.

Putting the Plant Back in Plant-Based

We’re putting the veggie back in veggie burgers. In turn, ingredient lists are shrinking (hooray!). In place of complex meat alternatives, walnuts, tempeh, and legumes are here to stay. This includes fancy faux fish, like trumpet mushrooms for scallops. Even plant-based milk alternatives are simplifying. As a whole, an interest in veganism will continue to prosper.

Spicy Sauces and Chili Oils

The trend for global peppers is only getting hotter. You’ll spot more fresh, whole, ground, and pickled peppers at the store. Plus, a new wave of sauces and chili oils are popping up in condiment aisles. Even tajín is expanding to spice up your grocery store sushi, desserts, and more.

Protein

It’s official: gym rats are no longer the only ones prioritizing their protein intake. And with it comes an eating pattern that promotes more not less—more energy, more strength, and more body confidence. On that note, dairy is also re-earning its seat at the table. From butter boards to cottage cheese bowls, we foresee more sustainably-sourced, high-fat dairy options fighting for fridge space.

All About Buckwheat

You probably know it in the form of soba noodles. But buckwheat is a versatile seed with fabulous nutrition stats. Containing protein, carbs and fiber, this gluten-free ingredient will penetrate your favorite food products (like crackers and granola) in 2024.

Treat Yourself

We can thank TikTok for “Little Treat Culture”—a trend we’re fully on board for. With that green light, consider 2024 the year you indulge in little luxuries. Think: an impulse macaron, an enticing adaptogenic beverage, or a weekday morning croissant. Brands are getting in on the trend, too. We’ll see individual serving packages that add joy without breaking the bank.

Well-Rounded Nourishment

Ultimately, we’re shifting away from specific and rigorous diets (like keto) in 2024. Instead, we’ll move toward more well-rounded ones, like eating for blood sugar balance and the Mediterranean diet. After decades of restricting, limiting, and narrowing our food intake, we’re focusing on fueling ourselves for stronger bodies—not depriving ourselves for the sake of smaller ones.

Woman journaling in bed - 2024 wellness trends predictions

If there’s one industry that’s making moves in 2024, it’s women’s health. From next-gen postpartum care to biohacking for females, we’re in for a (much-deserved) treat.

Products for Periods Through Postpartum

Across social media, we’ve seen hormone health take center stage. Think: fertility supps, seed cycling energy bites, and ovulation wearables. As such, food innovators are taking note. You can now shop for innovative prenatal snacks and PCOS-focused protein bars. Energizing menopause bars are available, too. In 2024, expect to see a growing emphasis on postpartum care, including better support in the transition to parenthood.

Biohacking

Biohacking is no longer just for bros. Women are asserting their authority in all things health research and optimization. Think: low-lift, everyday habits that enhance an existing well-being routine. Cold plunging, saunas, and building strength are blurring gender norms. Here’s a mini course on biohacking (specifically for women), if you’re curious to tap in.

Creatine Supplements

Similarly, creatine supplements are no longer marketed toward men. Come 2024, more and more women will be taking creatine to boost their athletic performance, support brain health, and promote youthful skin.

Limiting Noise-Induced Hearing Loss

Yes, ear health is a top priority in 2024. And good news! A slew of sleek wearables, medical innovations, and urban design changes are here to help us out. Expect to see more emphasis on ear health and hearing loss prevention, across the board.

Smart Gear

Inevitably, wearable devices are only getting smarter. In fact, they’re transforming the traditional patient-physician relationship. Smart gear will include everything from tampons to socks, and you’ll be able to share this data directly with their doctor—if you choose. A great example of this? Attune App. With a 60-second face scan (on your phone), it provides daily biomarkers. In 2024, minimizing chronic, avoidable health conditions is getting easier.

Woman stretching

We’ve long known that exercise is fundamental. It strengthens our hearts, builds muscle, and improves our mental health. But it’s also a nourishing way to forge relationships. In 2024, who you move with will be more important than how you move. You read that right. Workout culture is getting an upgrade.

Fitness Clubs > Social Clubs

In 2024 and beyond, we’ll see an upsurge in community-based fitness groups. Organizations will come together to encourage people to reap the benefits of movement, together. Whether your passion is hiking or pickleball, more fitness clubs (with social events) are emerging. In other words, gym owners will start prioritizing workout studios with a deep focus on community and connection.

Functional Fitness

Living to 100 is no longer a lofty goal. We just need to make sure our bodies can keep up. Enter: functional strength and mobility. As such, more people are lifting heavier weights, improving their range of motion, and fostering joint health. We’re embracing more walking, too. Rest is still key, but a sedentary lifestyle isn’t a vibe in 2024.

AI Coaches

In 2024, AI coaches are poised to lead an alternative era of fitness training. These AI-driven coaches will leverage real-time data analysis and personalized recommendations—a level of guidance that’s never been available before. These coaches will be able to identify trends, pinpoint weaknesses, and make continuous adjustments to your fitness levels. Whoa.

Post-Workout Recovery

In 2024, expect a significant expansion in the focus on post-workout recovery. This is great news, as recovery plays a crucial role in achieving optimal fitness results, reducing the risk of injury, and enhancing overall well-being. Look out for new ways to maximize your post-workout sweat, like bathing, ice baths, saunas, and thermotherapy.

Thankfully, the past several years have seen an uptick in interest across all areas of wellness—our mental health, included. In 2024, expect to see the trend continue, with more resources and opportunities for people to feel well.

Group Therapy

Non-virtual spaces where women can gather and reflect? You betcha. Women’s healing circles are gaining popularity. In 2024—and beyond—this coveted method of wellness will offer participants a safe group space to connect, share, and empower each other. In many ways, the concept of women-only spaces is dear to second-wave feminism. But it’s now coming back in the form of group therapy. Many are available across the globe, including specific retreats for women to discuss certain topics while surrounded by nature.

Wellness Retreats

Speaking of retreats, Ideal magazine foresees 2024 as the year of wellness vacations. For those consumed by the frenzy of modern life (ahem, most of us), we’ll be looking for ways to hit the brakes this year. At the tippy top of the list? Sleep retreats. Given that sleep disorders impact 50-70 million Americans, this is no surprise. There will be an increasing interest toward more natural settings for these sleep retreats, like forests or remote seaside villages. And they’ll offer a series of services— ranging from cognitive treatments to relaxation techniques.

Social Media Detoxing

We live in an age of round-the-clock connectivity. But with mental well-being at the forefront, let’s vow to leave constant notifications in 2023. Come 2024, allow the rise of mindful tech to surface. Look out for coffee shops, wellness spaces, and even work places that offer tech-free zones. In that vein, we foresee more apps that encourage digital breaks. We’ve already started advocating for scheduled periods of device disconnection. This is your gentle nudge to join the party! Digital overload is officially a thing of the past.

Experts Predict The Beauty Trends that are Here to Stay in 2024—And We’re Fully On Board

Trends are a reflection of our time, but they can also signal a fresh start—especially when it comes to the beauty industry. In honor of a welcome New Year ahead, we tapped a stable of beauty world heavy-hitters to help us sift through fleeting fads and pinpoint their best bets for 2024 beauty trend predictions.

While compiling the following beauty trends, we noticed that most fell into the skincare realm (a reaction to a consumer shift toward serums and moisturizers over makeup), and often speak to the sophistication of today’s buyer. The market may feel saturated, but skincare lovers are more educated than ever. They’re seeking out what actually works for them and are understanding the science as to why.

It’s an exciting, innovative time in the beauty world. The following 2024 beauty trend predictions feel like a hopeful response to that fact.

Quiet Luxury, The Beauty Edition

“The rise of ‘quiet luxury’ we saw come to the forefront of consumer consciousness in early fall ’23 is here to stay. A term initially coined for fashion—timeless, understated pieces that look expensive due to their high-quality materials—will influence the beauty industry as consumers seek effective, high-quality products that are both sophisticated and simple. (This doesn’t mean a steep price tag!)” — Monique Meneses, a 15-year former beauty brand consultant and founder of IOTA

Functional Fragrances

“In 2024 I’m pretty sure we’ll continue to see the rise of the functional fragrance movement as the next big perfume trend—where fragrance isn’t just about smelling good but is scientifically designed to be a powerful catalyst for mental well-being. I think we’ll see more scents that help with stress reduction and mood enhancement, ushering in a new era where fragrance not only awakens the senses but also contributes to a balanced mind and body.” — Rosie Johnston, Founder/CEO of By/Rosie Jane.

Regenerative Aesthetics

“People are looking for a much more “natural” look now, particularly the younger generation. They are less interested in that “high cheek contour” and “extra full” lips—prejuvenation is much more popular. The trend is moving to less filters and less makeup, with more focus on skincare and anti-aging.” — SkinSpirit Physician’s Assistant Kristin Polega

Polega does recommend dermal fillers for that rejuvenated look, but not just any kind.

“I love Sculptra Aesthetic because we remove the “shock factor” that some people feel with filler. It provides a gradual build-up over time, so the results are subtle yet impressive when comparing photos.”

Scalp Care is Here to Stay

“Throughout 2023 we saw a comparison drawn between scalp care and skincare. As many companies move into the space and capitalize on the trend, our job as stylists is to further learn and educate clients about what we think are the most effective solutions available.” — Jay Small, Celebrity Hairstylist and Co-Founder of Arey

Regardless of hair texture, density, or style preference, Small recommends two things when treating the scalp at home.

  • Ditch the added fragrance in scalp serums. “Scent is more for the experience and less about the health of your scalp,” Small explains. “I would also look for a water-based formula that is free of oil—preferably one that is backed by research and science.”
  • Look for gentle products. “Scalp scrub doesn’t have to literally scrub your scalp!” Small adds. “The most common causes of buildup on the scalp are oil and dead skin cells. Using a product that is less abrasive and contains ingredients that target that build up is key.”

The Skincare-ification of Nails

“2023 was a big, bling-filled nail year where studded talons and metallics prevailed, but I predict that 2024 nail trends will be dialed down with more of an emphasis on flaunting the underlying healthy nail, à la the no-makeup-makeup looks that have prevailed.” — Dr. Dana Stern, Board-Certified Dermatologist and Founder of Dr. Dana

For reference, Dr. Stern nods to fashion: “Helmut Lang’s spring/summer show models wore sans-serif typeface nails, which have a minimalist tattoo-like vibe. Jin Soon created a similarly chic, understated yet edgy look for Jason Wu’s show where black dots and lines were used over a clear base, again flaunting the underlying healthy, well-cared-for nail. Also, Holly Falcone created a clean, but playful and somewhat fanciful look for Sandy Liang’s 2024 runway show where nails were painted with an almost translucent pearly base and accented with satin bows and delicate gems, again flaunting the underlying clean, healthy nail.”

The Rise of the Trichologist

“A trichologist is a professional that studies the hair and scalp. Often we don’t know who to turn to for matters of scalp health—is it our dermatologist or our hairstylist? A trichologist bridges the gap between both, helping to diagnose and advise on everything from dandruff, hair loss, damaged hair strands, and overexposure to chemicals or styling. More and more I am speaking with hairstylists that are getting certified in trichology.” Jay Small, Celebrity Hairstylist and Co-Founder of Arey

Less Sameness on the Shelves

“Given the oversaturation in the market and overflowing shelves, as well as economic pressures across the board, I believe customers will invest in brands that are truly innovating with a clear point of difference that goes beyond trendy marketing. The last few years have seen a lot of ‘sameness’ on the shelves and I think we’ll start to see that fizzle in the spirit of focus and customer-led innovation.” — Stephanie DiPisa, CEO + Founder of Solara Suncare

Wellness 2.0

“The mind-skin-gut connection will inspire more brands to highlight how comprehensive well-being and physical appearance are interconnected as the lines between wellness and beauty become even more blurred.” — Monique Meneses, a 15-year former beauty brand consultant and founder of IOTA

Skincare products.

Science-Backed Ingredients

“I think consumers will be moving past some of the latest social media-driven ingredients or marketing trends in a return to craving more science-backed, high-performing ingredients. Brands that take that seriously and remain transparent and focused in their expertise will continue to thrive.” — Stephanie DiPisa, CEO + Founder of Solara Suncare

And of course, alongside rapidly-advancing technology and the shifts of social media, the wellness habits and tools we use to support our bodies and minds look vastly different year to year.

What are experts anticipating in 2024? Themes of personalized wellness, at-home workouts tailored to your health goals, and romanticizing everything shone through. The Experts

The trends our experts identified are grounded in the larger, shifting embrace of wellness that acknowledges and supports our individual needs. “When it comes to wellness trends,” says Shrankhla Holecek, an Ayurvedic experts and the founder and CEO of UMA Oils, “Ayurveda underscores that it is crucial to acknowledge our individuality […] and honor your intuition. Accordingly, cold plunges may not work for everyone, nor raw foods or extreme cardio sessions.”

With your unique wellness journey in mind, discover the 2024 wellness trends the next year has in store. Plus, our experts share the trends they’re happy to leave behind. Any guesses?

Romanticizing the Simple Things in Life

“This trend has been huge in 2023, by content creators bringing life and energy back to the simple things of the world. From making something simple like cooking dinner, to romanticizing it with candles, music, and a cute apron. I love the enthusiasm of people feeling like they don’t need to fly to Paris in order to feel love for life, they can do it by romanticizing the simple things we do every day.” — Sami Clarke, co-founder of FORM

Less Caffeine, More Greens

“I am currently a slowly recovering caffeine addict. About 6 months ago, I hit a daily habit of drinking 3 coffees and one energy drink a day. This led to extremely interrupted sleep and a dependency on caffeine that definitely wouldn’t be functional for the rest of my life. I’ve recently hopped on the powdered greens train. My energy levels are now more sustained and I’ve found myself less reliant on caffeine.” — Cassie Campbell, [solidcore] Head Coach and pvolve Trainer

Health & Wellness Personalization

“We are seeing even more of our guests at Pressed Juicery and society in general really utilizing technology like connected fitness (i.e. MyFitnessPal), personalization questionnaires, and really great algorithms (i.e. Tiktok) to hypercustomize their own health and wellness autonomy.  I love this because the wellness baseline is increasing in a way that is more specific to someone’s needs.” — Andrei Najjar, SVP of Brand at Pressed Juicery

(Select) Supplements

“Despite our best intentions and wellness-focused efforts, a majority of us live pretty stressed lives and juggle multiple priorities. I am a fan of certain Ayurvedic herbs such as ashwagandha, brahmi, or turmeric to extend our bodies’ stress-fighting and cognitive capabilities, and to help us find better mental/emotional balance.” — Shrankhla Holecek, UMA Oils founder and CEO, Ayurvedic Expert

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

“I’ve noticed a real move toward embracing natural, herbal fixes in wellness routines these days. More people are after gentle, holistic options, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is really having a moment because of that. TCM has been practiced for 3,000 years, and its herbal remedies restore the body’s balance and addresses health from a holistic, foundational level.” — Stephanie Tan, founder of NOOCI

At-Home Workouts

“This trend of short, effective, at-home workouts has still proven so worth it since 2021. People have been able to get more comfortable with working out, have saved money and time versus buying a gym membership, and are hitting their goals from home.” — Sami Clarke, co-founder of FORM

Affirmation cards.

Self-Care

“Optimized wellness has become baseline for all of our guests and we are continuing to offer solutions and systems to help them on their wellness journeys. We’re calling 2024 ‘The Year of Self-Care’ and are excited for what we have in store through product, partnerships, and education to deliver on this promise.” — Andrei Najjar, SVP of Brand at Pressed Juicery

Holistic Wellness Programs

“2023 raised our expectations of what a good wellness program looks like. We now crave programs that will not only help us to look good but will also improve our overall strength and the long-term health and sustainability of our bodies. This trend is not going away anytime soon but it does need to be qualified. I hope 2024 will do this.” — Dylan Davies, co-founder of LIFT Society, and Certified Nutritionist

Gut Health

“Maintaining a healthy gut is so important because it affects every organ in our body! Our immune system, mental health, digestion, and mood are all closely linked to gut health—so prioritizing care for your gut microbiome should be at the top of your list.” — Stephanie Tan, founder of NOOCI

Smoothies.

Mind-Body Connection

“The power of mind-body connection is a trend we are tapping into and will continue to lean into in 2024, seeing that being self-aware and emotionally mature is a superpower in this world. It is understanding how your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and attitudes can positively or negatively affect your biological functioning, and how the physical state of your body can impact your mental health.” — Sami Clarke, co-founder of FORM

High Intensity, Low Impact Workouts

“My body feels both the strongest and most strain-free when I train with low impact. I’m a tall girl at 5’11” and have always had sensitivity to my joints in general, but my knees specifically. It’s been tough to find a workout that leaves my joints feeling unbothered. I now personally swear by a rotation of [solidcore] and pvolve.” — Cassie Campbell, [solidcore] Head Coach and pvolve Trainer

Facial Acupuncture

“I love anything that is natural. Facial acupuncture helps stimulate collagen production and enhances skin elasticity—plus, it’s a non-invasive way to rejuvenate your skin, without the harsh chemicals. Finding a good, experienced acupuncturist is crucial!”  — Stephanie Tan, founder of NOOCI

Bedding.

Alongside the 2024 wellness trends to look forward to, there are some trends from this past year that our experts are ready to leave behind. What did they decide to put in the past? Read on.

Bed Rotting

“While Ayurveda would embrace what might be the overarching intention behind the trend of ‘bed rotting,’ (i.e., relaxing or dissipating fatigue levels), idling in bed in bed for long periods of time is actually likely to increase kapha (which is heavy, thick, slow) energy and ironically, leads to more fatigue and depressive feelings that you’re likely looking to fight. So, avoid spending long hours in bed under the guise of relaxation, as it can actually increase feelings of fatigue and melancholy, contrary to the desired effect. Combining sedentary activities like eating or watching TV in bed further exacerbates this kapha lethargy. Instead, Ayurveda suggests a balanced approach with mindful activities such as nature walks, breathing meditation, and engaging reads, alongside digital detox and rejuvenating sleep to combat fatigue or burnout.” — Shrankhla Holecek, UMA Oils founder and CEO, Ayurvedic Expert

Melatonin

“People rely too much on melatonin. Instead, we must shift gears and focus on an overall better sleep routine. Think: meditating, ditching caffeine early, leaving your phone out of the bedroom, and sticking to a regular sleep schedule. That’s the real secret sauce for solid shut-eye!” — Stephanie Tan, founder of NOOCI

One-Size-Fits-All Fitness

“2023 was an empowering year for the fitness industry in many ways as it taught us to want more out of our wellness programs. Unfortunately, there is still too much of an emphasis on group think. A good wellness program is not necessarily going to make you look like the latest aesthetic trend but will help you become the best version of your body type. We need to own this more in 2024.” — Dylan Davies, co-founder of LIFT Society, and Certified Nutritionist

Chopping lemons

Complexity

“I think a lot of people have discovered that if it’s too hard to understand, it’s probably a marketing gimmick. We find ourselves returning to simplicity in our ingredients, recipes, visuals, and partners.  For us, if you can’t understand it in 3 seconds, it’s probably too complex. Our success with Simple Cleanse is an example. Whereas most cleanses are hyper-complicated, we introduced a product this year that is a full cleanse in a bottle that tastes great and performs.” — Andrei Najjar, SVP of Brand at Pressed Juicery

Health Tracking

“I have a love-hate relationship with it. Tracking health metrics is fantastic for understanding your body, but doing it daily can amplify stress and extend screen time. Sometimes, it’s refreshing to ditch the metrics and just vibe with our body’s natural flow and rhythms.” — Stephanie Tan, founder of NOOCI

Quick Results

“2023 may have taught us a lot about what we want out of a good wellness program but it didn’t teach us the patience we will need to get there. In 2024, we need to let go of quick fixes to long-term problems and embrace a complete lifestyle change and think about a long-term approach to fitness.” — Dylan Davies, co-founder of LIFT Society, and Certified Nutritionist

“People Are Tired of Playing It Safe”—Designers Predict 2024’s Top Home Trends

Beige and clean white kitchens had a good run, but it’s thrilling to witness a move toward bolder hues and unique touches as we head into the New Year. To get a temperature check on what’s to come, we tapped talented designers to share their 2024 design trend predictions.

Warm hues and maximalism are in, as are bathrooms (or wet rooms) that feel more like spas. There’s a focus on mixed metals, sculptural wood, and sustainability done well. A crisp, clean white will always be in, but as Chicago-based designer Devon Wegman says, “People are tired of playing it safe—at least we are—and sticking with neutrals everywhere. Today, we’re incorporating more and more graphic stone, provocative artwork, and statement chandeliers. People no longer want their home to look just like their neighbors, and in order to do that, it’s critical to take risks.”

These are the experts’ best bets for the top design trends of 2024.

No More Gray Haze

“Any remnants of the gray trend for paint and flooring stains will officially say goodbye in 2024—finally!” says Eddie Maestri, principal architect and founder of Maestri Studio in Dallas, Texas.

Peak Peterson, interior design principal at Hoedemaker Pfeiffer in Seattle seconds that sentiment. “Cool gray rooms are on the way out, as a preference for warmth and dimensionality is becoming more popular,” she adds.

The Rise of the Wet Room

“Something I hope more people will lean into is the concept of a wet room,” shares Devon Wegman (she/her), Founder and Design Director of Devon Grace Interiors. Incorporating a bathtub right into your shower space (and not the tub-showers you had growing up) allows you to soak while capturing the steam and heat in the space, making the tub experience even more luxurious.”

Spa-Like Amenities At Home

And speaking of wet rooms, several designers are predicting more luxurious bathrooms all around.

“With the push to work from home and exercise at home we’ll see more spa time at home,” shares Brad Ramsey of Nashville-based Brad Ramsey Interiors. “Steam showers, infrared saunas, and cold plunges are being incorporated more and more into our designs as they get more affordable and accessible.”

Designer Peak Petersen also envisions elevated bathroom lighting in 2024. “A step past a simple sconce pair flanking the mirror, 2024 will explore the options of backlit mirrors and wall washing with integrated ceiling lighting which adds a minimalist edge to the bathroom,” shares the interior design principal of Hoedemaker Pfeiffer

The Power of Purple

“We saw this emerge slowly, but a new color family has now taken the town by storm: purple–but not the purple that pops to mind!” shares Joshua Smith, principal and founder of Joshua Smith Inc. “Think deeper shades like plum and amethyst, even deep magenta. Apart from being aesthetically pleasing, from a psychological perspective, purple promotes harmony of the mind and the emotions.”

Demaudecia Taylor, a color consultant for Farrow & Ball, notes that this 2000s trend resurgence comes with a modern twist. “Instead of using these colors solely for small powder rooms, people are now using rich shades like Preference Red No. 297 and Brinjal No. 222 to create intimate and cozy spaces in large areas such as bedrooms and formal dining rooms,” Taylor notes.

Sleek Sustainability

Smith expects an even greater push toward green living this year, with better education for clients and transparency for vendors. And when it comes to recycled materials, architect principal Tori Masterson of Hoedemaker Pfeiffer anticipates a more polished look.

“Rustic reclaimed materials are on their way out, to be replaced by reclaimed materials that have been refurbished and revived for their next life,” Masterson notes.

Beyond Bringing the Outdoors In

“Nature will be embraced in design in 2024, but it’s not just about bringing the outdoors in—it’s making a part of the design,” shares Katie Browning and Heather Lucas of Lucas Browning Designs. “We will be incorporating large windows framing picturesque views, skylights that invite starry nights, and mirrors strategically positioned to multiply the goodness.”

“We’re seeing a lot of clients request extra long sinks these days—anywhere from four to six feet long,” shares Wegman. “With that, we’re able to fit two main faucets, filtered water dispensers, disposal switches, and soap pumps (one for hand soap, one for dish) with plenty of room to spare.”

Curved Love

Designers agree: curves are here to stay. “Whether they are on a furniture silhouette or in the actual architecture, they are back in a big way and softening our living experiences,” Ramsey says.

Less Open Kitchens

“Open kitchens are on their way out as people crave segmented spaces after the adjustment to work from home,” shares Maestri. “In terms of what’s in for kitchens, clients are opting for built-ins to look like furniture instead of traditional cabinetry, and there’s a pull toward retro details such as the use of tiles on countertops and tables.”

Several designers are predicting more powder-coated pipes and less expected metals, like pewter, rose gold, and polished copper. It all essentially confirms one of Pinterest’s 2024 Home Decor Trend Forecast predictions—”Hot Metals: Melty metallics will make their way into the mainstream in 2024 as people trade in their trusty neutrals for something a bit more hardcore.”

Warm Layers

“This year, the color palette is all about warm neutrals, and we are even seeing a resurgence of pastels—a dash of pastel pink for a sweet touch, moody blue for a mysterious allure, light blue like a clear sky, and soft yellow or bold ochre to add a sunny pop,” Katie Lucas and Heather Browning of Lucas Browning Designs. “Together, these shades create a room that’s not just stylish but also oozing with comfort and charm.”

Interior designer Brad Ramsey calls it “tailored eclectic.” “That term usually elicits images of cluttered rooms with no true design direction,” he notes. “But no more, it’s time to layer it up the right way.”

Organic Shapes, Textures, and Colors

“I think designers and consumers will draw inspiration from nature and incorporate more organic shapes, textures, and colors using materials like raffia, bone, and papier-mâché,” says Jamie Young, founder of Jamie Young Co. “I’m expecting to see a shift in decor trends, emphasizing individual expression with handmade, artisanal décor opposed to the reserved and minimalist style choices that have been prevalent in the past few years.”

The Beauty Trends We’re Finally Ditching in 2024

What does a reset mean to you? Maybe it’s a clean slate or a chance to start fresh. Or perhaps it’s an opportunity to step into the best version of yourself. With 2024 quickly approaching, we’re motivated to craft our vision boards, make sweeping habit changes, and transform our lives. But the key to lasting, meaningful change starts before the clock strikes midnight on NYE. From Camille, I’ve learned that meaningful goal-setting starts with an intention. Who do we want to be in the new year? And to discover that, we have to be clear on who we are now. What are the things that serve us, and what are the things that don’t?

In the final days of the year, I’ve been carrying this mindset into everything I do. It’s inspiring to see every task as a possible entry point for change. Decluttering my wardrobe is a promise to be a more stylish and sustainable person. Scavenging for leftovers in the fridge reminds me that my first grocery haul in 2024 will be a healthier one. And going through the motions of my skincare ritual begs the question: what beauty trends do I want to take with me into the new year—and which am I leaving behind?

Featured image from our interview with Babba Rivera by Belathée Photography.

Beauty is such a fickle industry. Yet, it’s a significant part of many of our lives. I’ll always be navigating my relationship with my skin, hair, and overall wellness through the lens of ever-evolving beauty standards—but this doesn’t mean remaining at the mercy of the trend cycle. Some beauty trends offer inspiration while others provide fleeting entertainment before fading into obscurity. These are the beauty trends we loved this year worth keeping—and those we’re leaving behind.

Barbiecore

Call it controversial, but it’s time to say “bye, Barbie.” It’s hard to think of any trend that defined 2023 more than this one. Barbie was a pop culture phenomenon that crossed into literally every sphere of our lives—fashion, beauty, nail trends, and even home decor. And while this fun, femme film will always be close to my heart, the trend has run its course. Pantone named Peach Fuzz 2024’s color of the year, and I’m excited to see this more subdued, retro hue take the crown from Barbie pink.

Concealer Lips

This millennial makeup trend has reared its head again thanks to Sofia Richie. And while some sources call the trend “chic,” the style guru’s beauty influence has raised red flags in the past. (Yes, styling your wet hair into a slick-backed bun will cause breakage.) Even though we’ve come a long way from the caked-on concealer lips of the early aughts, we’re still in favor of other lip trends—like brownie glazed lips and lip stains—that seem to be holding strong.

TikTok Microtrends

Speaking of viral beauty looks, I vote we let them have less influence in 2024. Beauty trends move too quickly to keep up with these days. Tomato girl? Cold girl? Cinnamon cookie butter? The hyper-specific beauty “cores” and food-likened trends are inspiring fodder for experimenting with different aesthetics, but keeping up with each new trend is exhausting. I vow to only try the trends that truly speak to me, instead of buying every viral product that comes across my feed.

Laminated Brows

Laminated brows offer an accessible alternative to expensive microblading treatments. They’ve been described as a longer-lasting version of soap brows. And here’s the thing: I actually still like these. But I’ve been burned by brow trends before. Whether it’s thick or thin brows, somehow we always look back on them with regret. So I say, keep it simple and ditch the brow trends in 2024.

Snail Mucin

Snail mucin has been a popular ingredient in K-beauty products for over a decade and it has finally reached the mainstream. Especially with the nascent popularity of slugging. But in the K-beauty landscape, snail mucin is out and vegan alternatives like bean essence and wild yam are in. Maybe these will make their way into the zeitgeist this year.

DIY Skincare

I’ve gotten into sea moss in my smoothies this year. (Thanks, Erewhon.) But, I’m so sorry, nothing will convince me to put it on my face, despite the alleged skin benefits. This is true for pretty much any potent ingredient. It’s time to put DIY skincare behind us. Luckily, you can get natural ingredients like probiotics, vitamin C, and even olive oil in skincare products instead of your pantry.

Buccal Fat Removal

You know a beauty trend is already dated when you can barely remember it. But no, you didn’t dream it—everyone really was obsessed with buccal fat removal this time last year. While this treatment might have inspired much talk and many headlines, we’ve pretty much already put it to bed. But we can carry the natural facial sculpting trend into 2024.

All the Hydration

Slugging, skin milk, shea butter—this year was all about hydration. No matter your skin type, everyone is at risk for dehydrated skin. So topping up on hydrating ingredients is always a good idea. In 2023, there was a hydrating product for pretty much every step of your routine. And since adequate hydration leads to faster skin recovery, slower signs of aging, and smoother texture, I’m excited to see what 2024 brings.

Oils in Abundance

For too long, people with oily skin were afraid to delve into the world of facial oils. We were also told that oil products were bad for our hair. But 2023 normalized using oils everywhere. Hair oiling, oil cleansing, body oils, and facial oils should all be part of your routine—no matter your skin or hair type.

Retinol, Everywhere

Retinol is not as intimidating as it once was. And it’s creeping into more and more beauty products. Of course, I will always swear by tretinoin to improve skin texture and reduce inflammation. But now, there are so many options to help you start your retinol journey in 2024. Bakuchiol is a fave clean-beauty retinol alternative. And over-the-counter retinol creams make vitamin A easy on your skin. Even retinol body products are having a moment. If you didn’t start retinol this year, make it happen in 2024.

Baby Botox

Baby Botox, aka bite-sized Botox, is the practice of getting smaller injections of Botox for a more natural look. It’s also a good way for Botox beginners to ease into the process. With the rise of preventative Botox and Botox for wellness reasons like muscle tension, small doses of Botox have surprising uses. We’ll see more of them come to light in the new year.

Skinimalism

One of the buzziest skincare trends of 2023 wasn’t a product or a particular look. It was skinimalism: the art of doing less with your skin. After the ubiquity of 10-step skincare routines and the pressure to purchase every so-called miracle product, skinimalism is about slowing down and being intentional about what you put on your skin. The best skincare routine for you isn’t the same as anyone else’s, and skinimalism encourages a personalized, less but better mindset that we see continuing in 2024.

Embracing Aging

For so long, beauty products and treatments have been packaged up as a way for us to delay the inevitable. With that, came an element of shame—that if our skin showed any fine lines, wrinkles, or crow’s feet, we were doing it wrong. Thankfully, the conversation surrounding aging is in the process of shifting, and we’re beginning to see more skincare and makeup brands catering toward highlighting our features and helping us feel best in our own skin.

But rather than canceling our Botox appointments or skipping the eye cream, we’re connecting with the tools available to us in a way that’s empowering and dependent solely on how we want to show up in the world. Continuing into 2024, we’re trying the trends and products that resonate, and leaving whatever doesn’t. After all, what it means to age well is entirely up to you.

The 2023 Beauty Trends We Can’t Wait to Ditch in the New Year

What does a reset mean to you? Maybe it’s a clean slate or a chance to start fresh. Or perhaps it’s an opportunity to step into the best version of yourself. With 2024 quickly approaching, we’re motivated to craft our vision boards, make sweeping habit changes, and transform our lives.

These Are the Top Kitchen Decor Trends Designers Say Will Be Huge in 2024

Any real estate agent will tell you it’s worth investing in your kitchen, but beyond modern appliances and luxe touches (forever dreaming of a warming drawer) creating a beautiful space to serve as the heart of your home will reap intangible rewards. Thankfully, 2024 kitchen decor trends are skewing much warmer and cozier than the bright, white kitchens that have dominated for years. The heart of the home should be a reflection of you.

If you’re planning on making any culinary-adjacent updates (big or small) in the coming year, we’ve tapped a stable of talented designers to discuss the 2024 kitchen decor trends worth investing in.

Renovations are stressful. We asked the experts so you can remodel with confidence. The following trends—from moody marble to “kitschens”—are well worth the investment.

Statement-Making Marble

“We predict Viola marble will become a popular choice for countertops and backsplashes. The all-white kitchen trend is waning, and we’re seeing an increase in the use of white oak and walnut, cut in a less grainy style.” — Amy Mobley of City Hill Design

Soft Checkered Patterns

“While checkerboard in contrasting color schemes and inverse color palettes were on the rise recently, we’re seeing a more scaled-down version of the traditional marbled checkerboard floor through incorporating a softer color palette in the same tone family that go beyond the traditional black and white.” — Munir Turunc, president of Country Floors

Individualistic Kitchens

“2024 will spell the end of the ‘all white everything, all the time’ trend in kitchens. ‘All white and bright’ has a time and a place, but moving into the New Year we’re going to see a more individualistic take on the kitchen. The kitchen wasn’t always thought to be the place where people considered choice in material or texture or even giving it personality. I guarantee if you walked into 10 different kitchens right now, nine out of 10 would be pretty similar. But, I’m here to tell you—you don’t have to have the same kitchen as your neighbor! Whether boldly stepping out of their comfort zone with a stand-out marble or opting to go moody with dark blue, and grey cabinets—homeowners are wanting to show their true colors through their kitchens, quite literally!” – Lauren Meichtry of Elsie Home

Unique Hardware

“While I will always love black and gold hardware options, the upcoming trend is all about the shift toward more unique hardware options. Personally, I’m drawn to eye-catching textures, such as knurled, reeded, or wooden finishes.” — Shaolin Low of Studio Shaolin

Organic Kitchens

“Warm wood tones, especially in contemporary or Scandinavian-inspired designs, will be warmly welcomed into kitchens. One of my favorites is using oak wood, as it brings an organic air to the kitchen.” — Shaolin Low of Studio Shaolin

Kitchen Metalwork

“In 2024, I think we’re going to be seeing a lot of metalwork in kitchens. Designers have been loving custom cabinetry and range hoods over the last few years, but I still think we’re still in the early days of this trend. There are so many ways to incorporate metal into a kitchen while still creating a warm and refined space. I can’t wait to watch this design develop!” — Tess Twiehaus of Tess Interiors

Y2K Kitchens

“In 2024, we’ll continue to look to the past for future design inspiration, and the Y2k period is no exception. Integrating elements such as metallic finishes (whether through fixtures and accents) or high-gloss ones including reflective tiles and shiny surfaces are also a more modern way of integrating the design elements commonly found in the Y2K period.” — Munir Turunc, president of Country Floors

Kitchens With Personality

“When it comes to design, personality is key! That’s why I absolutely adore incorporating pops of color through wallpaper, backsplashes, and playful floor patterns with colorful ranges. This addition is the perfect way to infuse a fun and vibrant touch into any kitchen, making it truly unique and reflective of your individual style.” — Shaolin Low of Studio Shaolin

“Kitschens”

And finally, the good folks at Pinterest have released their 2024 “Pinterest Predicts” home trends, with eclectic kitchens (AKA “Kitschens”) front and center.

“Gen X and Boomers will quirk up their cooking areas with thrifted finds, vintage appliances and eye-jarring pops of paint. No minimalist aesthetic is safe.”
